U19 High School Super League: Friday Football Frenzy at Diski Clubs
The U19 High School Super League is set for another action-packed afternoon in the Deep South of Cape Town, with four Fives football clashes taking place at Diski Clubs – Court 1 on Friday, August 21. With the league heading towards its five-game-week playoff tournament, every result is becoming increasingly important.
The afternoon kicks off at 2:00 PM with Simon's Town High vs Zeekoevlei High. Simon's Town bring their trademark naval discipline to the court, with a structured approach, organised defending and quick counter-attacks making them a difficult side to break down.
Standing in their way is a confident Zeekoevlei High side. The 2025 U19 Freedom Cup champions also qualified for the national SSS tournament in Gqeberha, where they finished runners-up. Coach Jordan Gysman has developed a team built around quick combinations, direct football and disciplined defending — a perfect fit for Fives.
At 2:45 PM, Zeekoevlei remain on Court 1 to face Masi Academy. Masi's emphasis on unity and ensuring every player contributes could be tested against Zeekoevlei's high-tempo style. Captains Linathi Landingwe and Busisa Fani, alongside coach Inga Ngcupe, will be looking to keep the squad focused.
Masi Academy also come into the day with some serious attacking form. They put 17 past Silvermine Academy on August 7 before beating Masi High School 7–4.
The third fixture gets underway at 3:30 PM, with Masi High School vs Simon's Town High. Masi High will be looking to respond after a 5–0 defeat to Silvermine Academy on August 14. Coach Siphelele Meleni will be hoping his side can rediscover the unity and energy that sit at the heart of their team identity.
The day's final clash arrives at 4:15 PM, as Silvermine Academy take on Fish Hoek Students. Silvermine will be eager to build on their 5–0 victory over Masi High, having also endured a tough 17–0 defeat to Masi Academy earlier in the month.
Fish Hoek Students offer something different. The side is fully student-organised and supported by volunteer Diski Fives coaches, with their grassroots setup producing a scrappy, self-directed team where players take real ownership of the tactics.
With the five-game-week league phase building towards a playoff tournament, the stakes are rising fast. At the end of the opening five weeks, 1st will face 2nd, 3rd will meet 4th, and 5th will take on 6th. The winners can move up the final order, meaning teams in 2nd, 4th and 6th will have a golden opportunity to climb — while those in 1st, 3rd and 5th must defend their positions.
